The “We are the 300,000″ campaign is a movement by the Lyme community to take a stand against being ignored by the CDC and HMOs. Our goal is to obtain effective treatment for all people suffering from Lyme disease.
The CDC recently announced that rather than 30,000 new cases of Lyme each year, there are likely 300,000. What the CDC failed to explain is that they have been adamantly denying for years that “chronic Lyme disease” exists, despite a growing body of research that demonstrates otherwise. Seventy-seven peer-reviewed studies from 1977 to 2012 show that the Lyme infection can persist despite the recommended antibiotic treatment.
The Lyme community has been desperately battling for decades to get the CDC to acknowledge that many Lyme patients have a chronic infection that requires further treatment. Yet the CDC continues to ignore these appeals. Meanwhile, untold numbers are dying or suffering from debilitating neurological and physical symptoms and HMO’s are fighting tooth and nail to prevent Lyme from becoming the next costly AIDS epidemic.
The “We are the 300,000″ movement puts a face on the people whom the CDC claims are ‘cured’ with their recommended treatment. Whether we are homebound, bedbound, or in wheel chairs, Lyme patients from around the country are coming forward to show that Lyme disease is a massive nationwide epidemic and to demand treatment. Everyone is at risk for this deadly disease. The “We are the 300,000″ movement is asking able-bodied people to please join the fight. We need your help. Please take action.
